The Canadian Association of Recycling Industries British Columbia Chapter (CARI-BC) with the guidance of chapter Chairman, Brad W. Rudover have been developing the concept for Metreg.org over the past year due to the rise in metal theft across the country. Metreg.org is designed to help recover stolen material through speed and accuracy of information being passed from the victim to the recycler.
While Metreg.org is an efficient method to connect property theft victims with recyclers, the website is only intended for use by property theft victims that have contacted the police and have been issued a case/file number. The reason behind this is to ensure that victims are taking the appropriate steps in reporting their losses before using our tool. Since Metreg.org doesn't take any personal information from the victim the case/file number becomes the only identifying piece of information that distinguishes between reports. The idea is that recyclers will work directly with police agencies and the police agencies will be able to work with the victims.
